The idea of Milky Way was conceived just slightly two weeks after my first baby girl, Danielle, was born in 2004.

And there's been no looking back since.

Milky Way soon became a labour of love that evolved into an online shop that showcases quality apparel specially designed for expecting or breastfeeding mothers. It was simply born from my desire to see mummies have access to clothes that are of high quality, comfortable, and that make them look good without having to spend too much.

What has been most fun and rewarding is being able to meet and work with so many inspiring mothers in the course of my work. Here at Milky Way, we aim to “keep it real”. This can be seen from the choice of models who are mostly mothers themselves. We also have an all-mother production team working behind the scenes, conscientiously cutting and sewing together every piece of Milky Way garment. Our customer service staff are also mothers themselves and they know exactly what you need.

Five years on (and with the addition of my two other kiddies – David and Deborah), I am really happy to see Milky Way grow into a viable small business. The recent website revamp and the launch of our new showroom is an exciting development that can only be possible with the support of my family and wonderful customers who have been most encouraging.

Who knows where this will take us? But then again, it has never been about reaching the end point. It is about walking the unknown path for the first time, and learning, savouring the moments.

Much like the Milky Way, which holds for us mystery, awe, and a deep sense of wonder at life itself.
